Senegal vs. Egypt: 2022 AFCON Final



Senegal faces Egypt this Sunday at Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé, as the 33rd edition of Total Energies Africa cup of nations, Cameroon 2021 reaches its Grand Final.


Egypt last won AFCON in 2010 and was the runner-up in 2017, while Senegal has reached the final twice and lost 1-0 to Algeria in the 2019 championship match. It will be a showdown between two of the tournament's top stars- and Liverpool teammates- Egypt's Mohammed salah and Senegal's' Sadio mane.


Egypt, the best group in Africa Cup of Countries (AFCON) history, will take on Senegal, who have always lost this competition, in the last of the 2022 version on Sunday.


Egypt will be searching for a record-broadening eighth AFCON title. Senegal will be hoping to up the ante in the wake of losing the 2019 last to Algeria.


That misfortune would be on mentor Aliou Cisse's brain. He was in charge in the last version and was skipper when Senegal lost to Cameroon in the 2002 competition.


"Experience is a good asset," said Mane. "I think that has always been the case since the start of this tournament. We suffered so much with a lot of Covid cases and several injuries too.


"We had a very difficult time but with our experience we kept calm until we recovered the whole group.  We played a final last time, so we have experience and we will try to win this trophy."
